Ingrown hairs occur when a hair curls back and grows into the skin instead of out of it. They can occur anywhere on the body where hair grows but are most common in areas that are frequently shaved or waxed, such as the face, neck, armpits, legs, and pubic area.


Ingrown hairs can be uncomfortable and unsightly, and may even become infected.
