Sagging Skin

Sagging skin is a certainty with ageing, mainly due to loss of elastin and collagen within the middle layer of skin, the dermis. Elastin gives the skin elasticity which provides firm skin with the ability to bounce back when stretched. Collagen is produced by fibroblasts and comprised of tightly-constructed fibres, which help skin maintain its structure and firmness. These two proteins can also deteriorate by external factors such as UV exposure, cigarette smoke, poor nutrition, excessive alcohol drinking, and rapid weight loss may also result in saggy skin.

Treatment for minor sagging is simple. Exercises such as weight lifting, resistance training, pilates or facial exercise are a great way to see a minor improvement in your skin. Oral supplements containing ingredients such as collagen and hyaluronic acid can help to reduce age-related sagging skin. Topical creams, lotions and serums containing retinol may improve elasticity around the eyes area and skin. Prescription retinoids such as Tretinoin and retin-A are collagen-production boosters. Maintaining hydration, wearing sunscreen and avoiding smoking, and alcohol drinking help keep your skin fresher and less saggy.

There are several treatments available for skin sagging, including skin boosters, HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound), radiofrequency, laser, and thread lifts.
  • Skin boosters: Skin boosters are a type of injectable treatment that delivers hyaluronic acid into the skin to improve hydration, texture, and firmness. This treatment can be used to target areas of the face and neck where there is sagging and loss of volume.
  • HIFU: HIFU is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-frequency ultrasound waves to heat and stimulates collagen production deep within the skin. This can help to lift and tighten the skin, reducing sagging and improving overall skin texture.
  • Radiofrequency: Radiofrequency treatments use energy to heat the skin, stimulating collagen production and tightening sagging skin. This treatment can be used on the face, neck, and body.
  • Laser: Laser treatments stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture. This treatment can be used to target areas of the face and body where there is sagging and loss of elasticity.
  • Thread lifts: Thread lifts are a minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting small threads under the skin to lift and tighten sagging areas. The threads are typically made of absorbable materials and can provide a temporary lifting effect.
It is important to note that the effectiveness of these treatments can vary depending on the severity of the skin sagging and individual factors such as age and skin type. It is recommended to consult with a qualified healthcare professional to determine the best treatment options for your specific needs.
